Depois dois dias na rua com um amigo que viveu mais do que 10 anos em situação de rua em São Paulo (mais em breve), a gente terminou essa viagem no CONDEPE-SP que realizou uma audiência pública no Espaço da Cidadania “André Franco Montoro” no Largo Pateo do Collegio, 184, perto da Praça de Sé, no centro.

O CONDEPE ou Conselho Estadual de Defesa dos Direitos da Pessoa Humana é uma entidade pública que é formado por representantes da sociedade civil, movimentos sociais e autoridades públicas e tem o intuito de

“investigar as violações de direitos humanos no território do Estado de São Paulo, encaminhar às autoridades competentes as denúncias e representações que lhe sejam dirigidas, e estudar e propor soluções de ordem geral para os problemas referentes à defesa dos direitos fundamentais da pessoa humana”.

A audiência nesse dia era especial em vários sentidos: estavam falando as Mães de Maio que exigiam investigações dos assassinatos dos filhos delas, que foram matados em maio 2006, provavelmente por grupos de extermínio que existiram e ainda existem dentro da Polícia Militar (PM). A maioria das vítimas eram jovens negros, afro-indígena descendentes e pobres que moravam na periferia da Baixada Santista, área metropolitana da cidade de Santos, no litoral do estado de São Paulo.

After two days on the streets (soon more in another post) with a friend who lived more than 10 years in the streets of São Paulo, we terminated our journey at the CONDEPE-SP which took place at Espaço da Cidadania “André Franco Montoro”, located at Largo Pateo do Collegio, 184 , right beside Praça de Sé.

The CONDEPE or Conselho Estadual de Defesa dos Direitos da Pessoa Humana (the states council for the protection of the rights of the human being) is a public institution composed of representatives of the civic society and public authorities whose aim is to „investigate violations of human rights on the territory of the state São Paulo, forward denunciations and representation to the corresponding and competent authorities and to study and propose general solutions for the related problems, in order to protect the basic rights of the human being“.

This Thursdays council has been a special public audience in certain ways: several members of the Mães de Maio publicly demanded the clearing of the executions of their children in May 2006 which has been supposedly conducted by assassination squads that existed and presumably still exist within the Brazilian military police (Polícia Militar – PM). The victims were predominantly black kids (jovens negros), afro-indigenous-descendants and poor, who lived in the peripheries of Baixada Santista , the metropolitan region that surrounds the city of Santos, on the coast of the state of São Paulo.

No último domingo aconteceu A vida é um moinho, um evento de solidariedade com @s morador@s da comunidade do Moinho, no meio do centro de São Paulo, em Bom Retiro entre as estacões de trem em Luz e Barra Funda.

linhas de trem limitam a favela em dois lados

Vários grupos do movimento hip hop e grafiteir@s organizavam o dia junto com a comunidade do Moinho para juntar comida e roupas para @s morador@s e para crescer o conhecimento sobre os problemas a comunidade enfrente. Mas além disso, o dia serviu também para mostrar os lados bons do lugar. O palco escolhido era impressionante, em cima da fábrica velha e abandonada (mas agora ocupada por morado@s), no meio do Moinho. Antigamente as casas e o terreno onde a favela do Moinho reside atualmente, eram parte da Fábrica Moinho Matarazzo. A vida é um moinho took place yesterday in solidarity with the inhabitants of Favela do Moinho, right in the center of São Paulo, in Bom Retiro between the stations Barra Funda and Luz.

The day was organized by various hip hop and graffiti krews together with the Moinho community in order to collect food and clothes for the inhabitants and to raise awareness about the very serious issues Moinho has to face, but also to show the beautiful sides of the place. The chosen scenario was impressing, on the roof of the old (and now squated) industrial building, right in the middle of the favela , which was part of the previously existing Fábrica Moinho Matarazzo. some weeks already passed by since the massive ladyfest brasil took place in são paulo. anyway, its worth to share some pix and impressions. for those who don’t know the ladyfest, take a look at its history and find more information in this interview from amsterdam.

the ladyfest was realized in various parts of the city, mainly at cultural spaces and institutions like the livraria cultural, ay carmela!, centro cultural da juventude, martilha cultural and skateparks.

a public discussion at livraria cultural offered a broad overview about the womens struggle and fight in brazil. a massive example of organization, solidarity and powa mentioned during the discussion was the womens march from campinas to são paulo which took place from 08.03 to 18.03.2010. during that march, about 3000 women from all over brazil gathered and left their traces in the many cities the march stopped in. in every city workshops have been held and discussions took place, thematically ranging from domestic work, anti sexist and anti-racist education, agrarian  reform and womens work, biodiversity,  policies against domestic and sexual violence, abortion rights and women trafficking. more infos in the journal da marcha [pdf].

more workshops and meetings took place like bike repair offered by the pedalina collective (which organize their own critical mass every first saturday of the month, starting at 15h at  praça do ciclista/avenida Paulista) and self defense from wendo collective (which also exist in cologne).

the final party gathered 5 riot grrrl bands from brazil/usa. among them hardcore from joão pessoa (noskill), political riot from são paulo (dominatrix) and special guests from portland (team dresch). check them out! the concert took place at the centro cultural de juventude close to the bus terminal cachoeira in zona norte (the same region is almost not mapped in openstreetmap.org).
